CURRENT PROJECT

WE STARTED OUR PLASTIC RECYCLING CHALLENGE TO BENEFIT OUR LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER.

When our township started to implement sustainability policies on energy, waste, agriculture and natural resources, we took notice. A ban on single use plastic carry-out bags from retail establishments began on January 21, 2024. With hopes of extending that ban to single use plastic utensils, we saw the need to educate our community on why these changes are so important in battling our planet’s plastic pollution crisis.
With this goal to raise awareness and engage our youth, we were inspired and motivated to create a plastic recycling challenge.
We have the support of our township and environmental center. We have partnered with local businesses, libraries and schools. Flyers have been posted throughout the community. We are on newsletters and on social media. The word is spreading, and businesses and community members are not just giving us plastic but also their positive support and enthusiasm for a project which unites and educates.
We are currently working with our local businesses (ACME, Trader Joe’s, Mom’s Organic Market, Giant, Starbucks), our libraries (Ludington and Radnor Memorial), our environmental center (Riverbend Environmental Education Center) and with our township sustainability program.
Our goal is to donate multiple benches throughout our community while educating our community about the perils of plastic pollution and the benefits of a circular economy.
If you live near us in the suburbs of Philadelphia, please visit one of our collection bins. Contact us if you would like to join as a chapter head and create your own plastic recycling challenge in your own neighborhood:
